About us

Who are we?

Fridays For Future is a global movement started by Greta Thunberg on August 20, 2018. She sat alone outside Parliament House in Stockholm. She was tired of society’s unwillingness to see the climate crisis for what it is, a crisis.

The school strike continued until the parliamentary elections that same autumn. By that time, more young people had joined. After the election, Greta and her fellow strikers, Eira, Mina, Edit, Tindra and Morrigan decided to continue striking every Friday until Sweden follows the Paris Agreement that our politicians signed in 2015.

Every Friday, thousands of students and youth in over 100 countries on all continents now strike from school, demanding that our politicians should:

  1. Keep the global temperature rise below 1.5 ° C compared to pre-industrial levels.
  2. Follow the Paris Agreement and ensure climate justice
  3. Listen to the best-unified science currently available.
